Help. My Cat Has Liver Cancer.?

My cat is 18 years old and was diagnosed this week with liver cancer. She also had a heart arithmia. The vet put her on steriods to help shrink the inflamation and improve appetite. The steriods can cause more problems with the heart. I need help. I am looking for supplements or other options. I do not have a lot of money but I can’t lose her.

The Veterinarian’s Guide to Natural Remedies for Cats, compiled by Martin Zucker (1999, Three Rivers Press, New York) suggests giving a cat with liver disease milk thistle, an herbal remedy. This can be given in capsule form (one 250mg capsule daily) or in a liquid “glyceride” tincture.

18 years old is pretty old on cat years. The average age for a cat is 15 years old. I am a cat -lover and I know what you are going through with not wanting to lose your baby. I faced a similar situation with my cat that had Feline Leukemia.
I am sure she lived a good life. I know it is hard and we all look for a miracle to cure major problems. However, you need to think of your cat and then think what you would like if you were in her situation. Is she suffering? Do you really want her to suffer and go through all this torment of visiting the vet when necessary?
IMO, I feel if she is not suffering, enjoy what life she has left. On the otehr hand, if she is suffering, let her go into a place where there is no suffering, no pain, and all happiness. She knows you love her and she trust you will make the best choice. If you decide to let her go, know she loves you and will be much happier in another world.

I know it is hard losing an animal that old, but you do need to think about other things like is she uncomfortable, in any pain, are you prolonging her life when you should let her go. 18 years old is very old for a cat and believe me at that age she won’t live much longer with cancer.
Personally I think it is a cruel thing to allow an animal to suffer in any way so if you think she might be in pain or have less than a good life then please consider having her put to sleep. I know how very hard this is, but it is best for her. She will have no pain and just quietly go to sleep. Think about all the good years you had her and consider getting another cat to enjoy in the near future. It really helps. I have had lots of experiences having my babies put down after many years, but I couldn’t bare to know they were suffering.

My best suggestion is to just put her to sleep if you try to keep her you would have to put her on medicine and then she would be miserable you wouldn’t want her to die in misery and of course she will die anyways because everyone and alll animals die then you can get a brand new little healthy kitten if you choose

CJ, I hate to tell you this but it may be time to let your kitty go. I too have an 18 yr old cat that will devastate me when it’s his time. Think of the pain that your cat is going through. Would you yourself want to go through life that way. I am so sorry that you have to go through this. Whatever you decide, my prayers are with you.

i know it’s hard to realize that you might lose her. but right now, it sounds like she’s in alot of pain. the best thing you can do for her, the best way you can love her, is to let her go.

It is best to put her down, but if you want to try it, try calcium.
